Description

My first big break in comics came just before the turn of the century/millennium. I had produced a couple of small press, black & white, creator-owned comic book series with my friend J. Torres, all the while sending copies of those comics to various editors at bigger publishers in the hopes of catching someone's attention. After receiving numerous rejection letters, I finally got lucky when Darren Vincenzo, editor of the DC Comics series Batman: Gotham Adventures, contacted me because he needed a fill-in artist for one issue. Of course I jumped at the opportunity, and that one issue led to another, and another, until I eventually took over as the main artist on the series. It was a dream come true for me, it jumpstarted my comics career, and I got to work with some amazing people, including the wonderfully talented Scott Peterson, who took over writing B:GA at the same time I began drawing it.

This page is from my fourth issue. I've mentioned before how I liked when Scott would write these scenes with the heroes chatting about whatever case they're working on as they swing high above Gotham. Here's where I started using what would become my standard layout for these pages: a few smaller panels, usually with the figures in silhouette, overlapping one huge panel that would bleed to the edge of the page. Fun :)

Batman: Gotham Adventures #20 was written by Scott Peterson, pencilled by me, inked by Terry Beatty, lettered by Tim Harkins, coloured by Lee Loughridge, and published by DC Comics. If you'd like to read more, you can find the rest of the comic on Comixology.

Thanks for looking!
